Marina Dunes RV Resort – Marina, CA

In early April 2018 we got word that my sister-in-law, who had been diagnosed with ALS less than 6 months earlier, was deteriorating quickly and may not have long on this earth. We quickly packed up and drove up to Marina, CA with our trailer in tow, just Scott, me and our dog Mickey. We were able to visit with her the night we arrived and, sadly, she passed away the next day with her family, best friend and I by her side, joining my brother who passed away in 2016. She was a beautiful person, inside and out, and leaves behind a wonderful family who loves her dearly.

We had a hard time finding a campground in the area. There are a couple available, including one for active military in a nice area of Monterey by the wharf. But I looked a little further in Marina (just 10 miles from Monterey and in an area we’d stayed before) and was able to get a reservation at the Marina Dunes RV Park (Click here for more details). If you’re ever in the Marina/Monterey area, it’s a nice park with full hookups, lots of trees, Wifi and cable, and just across the street from the beach. You can’t see the ocean from the park because of the dunes, but it’s a nice walk on a sandy trail, and dogs are allowed on the trail.0203040506On one walk we encountered a lovely, slithery friend. Scott wanted to know why I grabbed him and said, “Stop!”, then he looked down and saw this going across the path, right in front of us!07A08a08The weather was a little chilly and on-and-off cloudy, as it often is this time of year in Marina. It was also quite windy, as you can see by Mickey’s ears!09010011It was nice to walk around and explore the area. I love wildflowers!013

She was always such a good little traveler!021022Arriving back home near Oceanside, CAimg_2373img_2374We would be back in Monterey in a few weeks for my sister-in-law’s memorial service.
