For our first camping trip we decided we didn’t want to venture too far away from home, just in case there were any problems. We also wanted to have full hookups. Santee Lakes in San Diego County, CA was actually recommended to us by the guy who sold us his PUP, and it was just 40 minutes from home. We were SO excited to FINALLY be going on our first trip!
We got Mickey’s carrier on Amazon and I love it because it’s so versatile. We can use it in the car and strap it in with seatbelts, use it outside when we’re relaxing at camp, and inside at night for her little bed. The windows zip open, have Velcro to hold open, and it has a handle on top for carrying. http://amzn.to/2vvDs18
Santee Lakes has 7 lakes, two of which are exclusively for camping and include 300 full hookup sites. Reservations are made fairly far out, but we really lucked out in getting probably one of THE best sites, #9 due to a cancellation.

We were in desperate need of time away just to relax, and it was perfect. I loved just getting up in the morning and having hot coffee while my husband cooked. Yes, he LOVES to cook, especially when camping. That’s fine with me!

Campers (only) can fish at lakes 6 & 7, then there’s also more fishing and other activities available in the Day Use area, including bike rentals and pedal boats.
