Wawona Meadow Loop Yosemite – “Easy” but there can be CHALLENGES!

The Wawona Meadow Loop in Yosemite is rated as “easy”, but we went in mid April 2023 after some snow melt and found a few challenges such as the trail being completely covered in water in some sections, then a rushing stream about 10-12 feet wide. More info and pics below. It was a little challenging but made for some good memories!

The Loop is about 3.5 miles long and starts just across the road from the Wawona Hotel in Wawona outside of Yosemite Valley. The really nice thing about this trail is that dogs are allowed! Most National Parks don’t allow dogs on trails, and if they do, there are very few.

This (below) is where we came to an area that was completely flooded. I am taking this picture from the side, up on the bank where we had to traverse around. We were surprised to see a lot of snow over there.

Further on up the trail we came to a river which I’m sure is usually just a little stream, if that. We stood there for quite awhile deciding how we would get across, especially with the (little) fur baby! Again, check out the video to see what happened. It’s a great memory now, but I was a little nervous.

At the end of the trail you have to cross the main road again to get back to the Wawona Hotel and parking area. We first made the mistake of trying to walk along the road (little to no shoulder!) because we didn’t realize the trail continued parallel to the main road for a bit more. It looks like the trail ends there but it doesn’t. After you go down a bit more on the dirt trail, THEN you can cross the road in a crosswalk. Ooops!

After our hike we looked around the Wawona Hotel grounds, then found a couple Adirondack chairs and stopped and had our lunch that we had packed. Beautiful day!

This was in April 2023, and there’s been a lot more snow melt since then. I wonder what that looked like. Have you ever been to the Wawona Meadow Loop?
